Born in South Africa, Raised in Dubai, and now currently enrolled in the masters program at Santa Clara University in California, I am an ambitious and Creative Software Engineer with a Bachelors in Computer Science and a strong work ethic.
I currently enjoy transforming raw concepts into polished, fully-fledged user-centric web applications which perfectly fits in with my passion for fast-paced innovation and visually stunning products. Proficient across the entire development lifecycle, from brand identity creation to shipping robust solutions leveraging React and Next.js, I am a capable and well rounded developer that can bring any vision to life.
Whether working independently or collaboratively within dynamic teams, I combine strong engineering habits and effective communication to deliver dependable, well-built products.
I developed a live e-commerce platform from the ground up to gain hands-on experience with the Stripe financial payment platform and end-to-end web application deployment.
This project allowed me to manage the complete setup, including domain acquisition, web and database hosting, interlinking various services, and establishing an administrative interaction layer. It also provided practical experience in integrating with third-party APIs like Printify and a strong introduction to brand identity formation.
My creative process began with content generation. I either used my own photography or leveraged ComfyUI AI models to generate unique images. These images were then refined and edited in Adobe Photoshop to create compelling designs. I applied these designs to mockups and, using the Printify API, transformed them into tangible products ready for sale.
With the products established, I focused on the data infrastructure. I created a PostgreSQL database, hosted on Supabase, to securely store all product information and their associated variants.
To act as the crucial middleman between the database and the client, I developed a backend Express.js server, hosted on Render. This server was responsible for fetching product data, managing order creation, interacting with Stripe for secure client payments, and adding an essential layer of security over all these operations.
Finally, I built the front-end online store that clients interact with. This was developed using React and Next.js, ensuring a modern and dynamic user experience. After completing the development, I purchased a domain and successfully hosted the entire website.
A key design consideration was mobile responsiveness. Analytical data from my advertising campaigns and website tracking clearly indicated that most users accessed the site via mobile devices. Therefore, I prioritized a user-friendly display across all phone screen sizes to optimize the customer experience.
I led the conceptualization and development of a full-stack financial analysis web application, specifically designed to leverage SEC EDGAR APIs for parsing, analyzing, and storing extensive financial data. This project involved engineering an automated pipeline to download and process daily bulk filings, ensuring an up-to-date database for tens of thousands of companies. I spearheaded the codebase creation and development, collaborating with a team using Agile methodologies, conducting MVP evaluations, and maintaining comprehensive documentation.
The core of this project involved creating a robust parsing library capable of processing companies' annual and quarterly reports found on the SEC EDGAR system. This library was designed to extract key financial information, parse it effectively, and save it for subsequent analysis within our database system.
A particular focus was placed on extracting the US-GAAP taxonomies used for each metric presented in the core financial statements: the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement. This granular extraction allowed for a deep understanding of how companies categorize and report their financial data.
To facilitate comparative analysis, I designed and implemented a unique table. This table provided a comprehensive comparison of the taxonomies companies had used across their various reports, what those taxonomies were actually measuring, and how each given taxonomy compared to the industry standard.
Furthermore, I developed a feature to recreate the financial statements, but with an added layer of insight. Each metric in the recreated statements explicitly showed the taxonomy that had been used, and an AI interpretation was integrated to perform insightful analysis on the data.
For user accessibility, the platform allowed users to easily search for companies by their name, ticker symbol, or their unique CIK (Central Index Key).
When I'm not focused on my professional side of life, I dive headfirst into a variety of passions that keep me inspired and engaged.
Music has always been a huge part of my life. I've been playing the drums for 16 years, and it's something I truly love. I even received my Grade 8 award for Trinity College London Rock & Pop after many years of dedicating time and effort to progress through the examinations. These days, I also play in a band in my free time, which is a blast – there's nothing quite like playing music with good friends.
Creativity wise, I'm pretty immersed in the diverse world of art. I'm a dedicated photographer, often spending my weekends shooting portraits and events. Videography is another visual passion of mine. Beyond the camera, I love to sketch, delve into graphic design, and explore different digital art forms. I'm always experimenting with tools like Unreal Engine and the Adobe Creative Suite to bring my digital visions to life.
Staying active is also very important to me too. I spent four years playing collegiate rugby, and many more prior, which was an incredible experience that taught me a lot about teamwork and pushing my limits. These days however, you can often find me on the golf course, going for runs, or in the gym keeping my body as sharp as my mind.
